Ad Hoc Vox and Frederieke Taylor Gallery are pleased to invite you to Representing Modernism: Architecture in Contemporary Art, a panel discussion that will take place at the gallery on Saturday, December 13th at 6:00 pm.

The panel will examine the role of modernist architecture in contemporary art, discussing ways in which artists use architectural modernism in their work and why such historical visual languages are relevant now. Is modernist architecture seen to provide examples of utopian experiments and politicized space, a catalogue of design references, or a way to examine issues of ideology, gender, and political aesthetics?  

Representing Modernism: Architecture in Contemporary Art will bring together artists, architectural theorists, and practicing architects to discuss ways in which such strategies are pertinent for contemporary artists. The discussion's participants are Katarina Burin, Keller Easterling, Sarah Oppenheimer, Amie Siegel, and Thomas Tsang. Jess Atwood Gibson will moderate the discussion, which will be followed by a Q & A with the audience.

MARTIN G. SCHMID showing at *OUT THERE IN THE MID OF NOWHERE* curated by Erno Vroonen at Galerie der Künstle in Munich. Exhibitng artists include Mark Titchner, Tomas Saraceno, Bo Chrisian Larsson, Julien Friedler, Christina Grace, Bettina Krieg, Thomas Thiede, Martin Kobe, Koen Vanmechelen, Daniel Man, Christian Jasper and Christian Anderson. The show opens Oktober 24 3PM and runs until November 23.

NIELS SIEVERS

NIELS SIEVERS will participate in *TURBULENT WAVES* in Chengdu (China). The exhibition is a German-Chinese exchange project featuring 13 students of the class Professor Wang Chengyun of Suchuan Academy of Music Chengdu Fine Arts College and 13 Meisterschüler of the Klasse Immendorf.

HALINA KLIEM

HALINA KLIEM will be part of the *TO: NIGHT * show @ HUNTER COLLEGE, NY (www.hunter.cuny.edu/art/galleries) in September this year. The Exhibition is curated by Joachim Pissarro (Bershad Professor of Art History at Hunter College and Director of the Hunter College Art Galleries and Adjunct Curator, Dept of Painting & Sculpture at MoMA) together with Mara Hoberman and Julia Moreno and will feature work of  Thomas Ruff, Jen DeNike, Jeff Wall, Andy Warhol, Stan Douglas and Ewan Gibbs amongst others. TO: NIGHT brings together a selection of artworks which explore the theme of night using a variety of approaches.

This exhibition opens at the Hunter College Art Galleries in September 2008 coinciding with the exhibition of Van Gogh at Night at The Museum of Modern Art curated by Joachim Pissarro. The show will take place @ Times Square Gallery, 450 West 41st Street, New York, NY.

ALI KEPENEK will be part of the group show * BEAUTY IN THE 21ST CENTURY *, that will open 19th September in the DEICHTORHALLEN in Hamburg in the HAUS DER PHOTOGRAPHY (http://www.deichtorhallen.de/)! The exhibition will travel on through various European cities afterwards. A catalogue will be published by Dumont. ALI KEPENEK will show a selction of his Tattoo-series in the exhibition.

MIE OLISE KJÆRGAARD was just awarded the * ARTIST OF 2008 * by the ROCKWOOL FOUNDATION based in Denmark.

NIELS SIEVERS will be part of the show * SPIEGELBILD * @ KIT (KUNST IM TUNNEL) in Düsseldorf. KIT is a new and exciting exhibition venure, located beneath the Rhine promenade. Mie Olise Kjærgaard

MIE OLISE KJÆRGAARD is shortlisted for the JOHN MOORES PAINTING PRIZE. The prize has been a key component of the LIVERPOOL BIENNALE since 1999, and will be a major strand in the city's 2008 European Capital of Culture celebrations.

She is also nominated for the SOVEREIGN EUROPEAN ART PRIZE 2008.

Furthermore, MIE was awarded the ISCP NEW YORK RESIDENCY 2009-2010 and got the CCA RESIDENCY at Mallorca this autumn, NES RESIDENCY at Iceland for spring and last but not least the RAID RESIDENCY Los Angeles for 3 months in the summer of 2009.
